The story Tenuta di Valgiano started in 1992 when the ancient but disused estate was purchased by Moreno Petrini and his wife Laura. The estate is some 40 hectares with 16 under vines and Laura now produces just 4 wines, three red and a white from a mixture of local and international grapes. Tuscan grapes Sangiovese, Cannaiolo, Trebbiano and Malvasia, are joined by small plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc and even some strange additions like Roussanne and Savagnin. The farm is worked according to Biodynamic principles, and is now Demeter certified. The farm has started to produce fruit of outstanding quality, thanks to the age of the vines and benefit of natural farming on the rare and excellent terroir - sandstone bedrock with calcareous, marl and limestone covering. The results are evident in the quality of these bottles. They are wines with grace and poise and a quality level which rivals the more prestigious regions of Chianti Classico and Montalcino. In fact, we believe the top wine from the oldest vines, call simply 'Tenuta' is arguably one of the finest red wines in Tuscany.
