Collection Diplomate d’Empire Abbatucci MAGNUM 2012

Le Diplomate d’Empire Cuvee Collection Abbatucci, Vermentino, Brustiano, Bianco Gentile, Genovese, and Rossola Bianca, what blend hey!  A lush, round, floral, exotic white wine of immense depth and quality, a glass of pure hedonistic pleasure. A simply gorgeous white wine from esteemed winemaker Jean-Charles Abbatucci, whose Napoleonic ancestors inspire this Cuvee.  Made from Vermentino and other rare local varieties, the wine has a full mouthfeel, with exotic fruit and hints of the resinous garrigues which abound on the landscape. Drinking well now but has potential to age for a long, long time.  We recommend serving this wine not too cold and after a couple of hours in decanter.  It would pair well with everyone’s favourite Tuesday night staple, namely Lobster….or other firm white fish like Turbot or some rich creamy cheeses.  The 2012 Magnum we would immagine (having unfortunately not tasted it) should be sensational.  They say wines age better in Magnums, that is to say, the ageing is slower, so flavours knit together better and the wine seems to express itself in a more elegant and complete way.  It is also thought that a wine will age twice as long in Magnum so this 2012 here will be likely at the similar stage in each evolution as a 2017 or 18 750ml bottle.  This makes it perfect drinking age for Diplomat which starts to really sing at around 5-10 years old.
