Description This smooth, strong, 100% silk organza fabric is 44 in./114cm wide and comes in two weights: 35 gram/31gsm and 26 gram/23gsm. Organza is a naturally stiff fabric that is very sheer and can be shaped easily. It’s also very light, making it an ideal base for beading, tambour, aari, goldwork, and other forms of embellished embroidery. Because it has a loose weave, organza has a tendency to fray, so we recommend ordering a slightly bigger piece that you would normally need, and sewing a loose straight stitch or zigzag stitch near the edge to keep it from unraveling while you work. Certified Fair Trade, GOTS organic, and produced according to peace silk cruelty-free standards, there’s finally a pure silk organza that doesn’t harm people, animals, or the planet. Made by a cooperative in India, the fibers in this organza are spun after the silk moth has naturally emerged from the cocoon. There are zero pesticides or genetic sprays used on the leaves of the host mulberry trees feeding the caterpillars and no harmful chemicals used in de-gumming the silk. Further environmental protections include using solar powered looms and reclaimed water, along with composting the gum residue from the cocoons.
